{Day 9} Dunkerque/Bergues/Boulogne-Sur-Mer
We spent today in the car traveling from Brussels to Boulogne-Sur-Mer. We rode through southern Belgium to Dunkerque (not pictured), which was Wesley's first area after leaving the MTC in 2007. We then stopped in a near-by town of Bergues for a late lunch and walked around the quaint village (^ here is where the photos begin). Wesley visited this town twice during his mission so I remembered it the most from the pictures he had sent home. It was so neat to walk around and see the place as a whole. We then got back in the car and drove through Calais and stopped to take a few pictures that epitomized our scenic views on the drive throughout the day. From far away, each little town looks roughly the same - a small collection of white and brown cottages with red tile roofs nestled around a chapel in the centre ville. Boulogne-Sur-Mer is no different, just much bigger! It is a lovely small city by the sea. Wesley had lived here for 6 months, so he remembered walking on just about every street. We rode through it for a while, then parked and walked through the old ville. The Basilica there was right in the center and was just as beautiful on the inside as the outside.
We ended our day pulling into this magnificent Chateau d'Clery where we are staying the night, and had a fantastic traditional French dinner in the chateau's restaurant. We ate on the enclosed glass terrace, which had stunning views of the back garden. Our table was right next to the door open to the patio, where we watched a group of ducks walk right in like they where expected to be seated at their usual table of 7! Haha!! They of course, were shooed out immediately, but we have been laughing about it ever since...
